4chan is an imageboard website that was started in 2003 by Chris Poole AKA Moot. It took inspiration from Japanese imageboard sites like 2channel. Originally it was a space for niche topics and interests, notably anime. People liked the fact it was anonymous and that the conversations stayed fresh since any post past page 10 got archived, unlike other sites. In 2016, it began to get taken over by American politics during the 2016 American Presidential Elections. Nowadays it's a toxic cesspit devoid of any meaningful conversation, full of mentally ill shut-ins, racists, creeps, and disgusting porn threads all constantly spamming the same topic. Don't get me wrong, 4chan has always been degenerate, but it's gotten worse year after year. The website has influenced the culture and history of the internet but why does it still exist? I never go on it anymore because it's like walking into a digital psyche ward.
The website in general is a big clusterf*ck. It's difficult to navigate, and as you say, it's a hub for shut-ins, racists, creeps, and porn addicts. Needless to say, I think you answered your own question; why does the site still exist? As you have said, the site has influenced the culture and history of the internet. That gives patrons on that site all the more reason to keep it active for years to come, whether it be through donations or otherwise.
It's sad really, even after all the mass shootings the site had been found to be connected to. Why it's difficult to navigate ?
4chan has become an echo chamber of racist degenerates that do the same things over and over again. And every year there's always some incident involving the site. Surely there are better websites than this? Why waste time on boards of self-loathing creeps that never learn or improve themselves? All for free speech but 4chan is a relic that should have been shut down years ago. If the site was to ever shut down I guarantee someone would either make a replacement or buy the domain. They'll never let it die. 2100 and 4chan will still be going, same format and same rhetoric over and over and over. Acting as if it's the center of free speech when really it's just a bunch of deluded mentally ill people stuck in an echo chamber projecting their miserable thoughts.
I found it very disorganized and clustered, and the discussions were difficult to follow due to how the threads were formatted. It has been years since I last used that site. I don't know if it's changed since then.
I don't use 4Chan and I wouldn't recommend using it since it has porn content, but in spite of everything it occasionally has some good threads which sometimes trickle to me through other sources, with freedom you get both sides of the coin. Because 4Chan is not censored you will sometimes get good and free discussions from it. So you think Reddit is better? https://archive.is/7uogZ (BTW not only was reddit controlled by the likes of Ghislaine Maxwell, it's also tied to Sam Altman, who was responsible for all the chat bots you mistake for people on reddit) So you think CNN propagandizing the killing of millions of Iraqi children to be Ok but some internet discussion in an outlaying internet fringe website to be an issue? from cat to cat Mr.Bingles, you need to start looking at the world differently
Cause if you get rid of it. They'll go elsewhere and infect other places If 4chan gets glassed. You gotta pour the molten sand on reddit too. Stay angry All I gotta say izzz... I'm the coolest cat in dis hou
As a normal person myself, that website has never in my life entered my search bar. I find it funny that people like yourself who know all about it and have used it, are asking why it still exists..
4chan is an Awesome site. Its reality unfiltered. If you prefer a more PC safe space you can go somewhere else for that.
During lockdown, I used to lurk on the /vr/ and /sp/ boards, which got out of hand. Began scrolling through other boards and was disgusted so I stopped going on the site altogether. Surprised 4chan managed to stay up years later even with attacks like the Christchurch shootings being associated with it. It's too much for me, everyone always seems miserable and hate-filled. Reddit is even worse, they reward each other with stupid badges that cost actual money to fuel their delusions. Any idea or opinion that isn't strictly in line with their thinking or opposing them is downvoted. Most of the newer users on 4chan post-2016 are from Reddit. At least 4chan does sometimes have genuine discussions but Reddit is textbook definition of an echo chamber. Can't stand that neckbeard website.
Reddit is garbage too, not defending it at all. Also idk anything about CNN since I'm not American. But a lot of the users on 4chan need genuine psychiatric help. I go on general threads and some anons are there from 6 in the morning to 12 at night posting the same things over and over again. Definition of insanity. And /b/ is the most disgusting, degenerate thing I have ever seen. I am dumb, my view doesn't matter anyway. Take it with a pinch of salt. But cheers fellow cat. :>
I second the guy who said 4chan is full of porn, so is best avoided. I do think some boards can be funny though.
I don't understand how it's gotten to this point where people are overgrown children and cannot tolerate the existence of different opinions. There is one simple solution that may not have crossed the minds of these liberal snowflakes. If you don't like 4chan, you can just simply not look at it, not browse the forum. Nobody's forcing you to read that forum at gunpoint. And I personally have zero interest in 4chan, I've never browsed that forum nor do I have any interest in it. But, it's existence does not affect me in the least. But for these liberal snowflakes, just the existence of diverging opinions bothers them, they find it unacceptable. Well guess what, this is how the world is. It's full of people with opinions that you find reprehensible, that's just part of life. I have close and dear friends whose worldview differs wildly from mine, but we still love eachother all the same.
