Ah... the movie that makes all men what they are today whether they realize it or not. I think that movie caused an evolution in male dna.
actually manly does not mean all about guns and bombs... manly is about the transition of rocky to a trained boxer......the raw strength depicted in that movie ....and specially those training sequences....
Hard to say, I would have to name a war movie, but my all time favourite dealing with this topic is "Fight Club".
Not trying to sound ironic, but for me it's Bullhead. It's sad and poignant and deals with masculinity in a very different way. Spoiler: The image might be triggering
So I just asked my SO this question and he said "define manly" Idk... It's not my question. Then he gave two answers - "the last boy scout" & - "the pursuit of happiness"
I forgot about the last boys scout. Respectable answer. I can't cosign on anything featuring Will Smith though.
Taxi Driver - “All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.” American Psycho- “My punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.” Fight Club- “how much do you know about yourself if you’ve never been a fight?...” “Self improvement is masturbation, now self destruction...” “May I never be perfect.” “The things you own, end up owning you...you’re not your fucking khakis...” “First you have to know, not fear, KNOW, that one day you are going to die.” “Our fathers were the model for God, if our fathers bailed, what does that tell you about God? You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you. This is not the worst thing that can happen.” “It’s only after we’ve lost everything, are we free to do anything...”
PAIN & GAIN- “I have no sympathy for people who squander their gifts. It's sickening. It's worse than sickening. It's unpatriotic.” Jarhead- “do you have what it takes... to be the meanest, the cruelest, the most savage, unforgiving motherfucker in God's cruel kingdom?...Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for I am the baddest motherfucker in the goddamn valley.”
