    Hello

Has anyone here tried social media detox? If so, whats your experiences with it?
I've noticed im scrolling on facebook to much and even involuntarily click on social media icons on my phone. It's weird because i am fully aware of how destructive to brain it is yet i still have failed many times to control it. In my opinion social media addiction is a HUGE concern especially for young people - problem is in some cases social media are actually pretty usefull so it kinda hard to find a correct way to balance it.

Im really sick of brainless scrolling so i decided to my give social media detox another try and im writing here hoping it will help motivate mi to stay the course. The rules are simple: no facebook, instagram or youtube (only platforms i use). I will try to update here more or less regurarely.
If anyone of you guys have some pro tips on how to quit it once and for all or just have some interestings thoughts about it feel free to post it here.

I go through periods where I get off social media. I found when you return to it people seem far too opinionated for their own good. It feels like you're entering a room full of people yelling at one another.

I would say if you go off social media you need to replace it with something. I would the best thing to replace it with is reading books. Watching films is another good thing to replace it with.

I'm currently off social media and my goal is to spend only 8 weeks on it this year.

Social media is the mother of 90% of slips. I do not believe it is possible to achieve a long-term abstinence from P&M while still maintaining a social media addiction.

    Kick that trash.

That ending makes a lot of sense, as I’ve often wondered if an advanced alien race looked at human’s behaviours, they’d think there’s something wrong with us.

I did it once for a month, and I was less stressed, anxious, moody, and on edge a lot of the time. For context I also cut out news and anything that resembled social media, and I felt better then than I do now to be honest.

I've been there too! Social media detox is a game-changer. I get the struggle with mindless scrolling. For a successful detox, try replacing social media time with productive activities or hobbies. Consider setting specific goals. Also, exploring controlled environments or porting your social media activities might help. Good luck, and feel free to share updates or seek support here!

I have done, digital detox for 48 hours. Not coming in contact with any digital devices including TV. Go out in green. After 48 hours your eyes and brain will party with you.

Social media is designed to rob you of your time in the real world. It's meant to keep you on it for hours, scrolling mindlessly to the next post. It works the same way porn does but without the happy ending (sorry for the bad joke) I'm sick of Instagram and FB where I get sucked into watching REELS and other crap for hours.

While I don't think social media is as harmful as porn, any recreational content found on a digital screen should be used in moderation.

Delete facebook, instagram and all those other apps. However, find some positive habbit that can replace the time. Otherwise you have this big urge to install these apps back. For example (reading, walking, going outside, see some friends, working out, watching a serie/movie, extra work, etc, etc)

I'm doing that too. The only way I know what's in the news is by subscribing to some news podcasts. The rules I have around what news podcasts I listen to are that they can be only weekly or twice-a-week podcasts. It's amazing that most new media only have daily podcasts. Local is more important than any national or international news because it covers stories that affect our actual lives but most people aren't interested in it.

I would say if you use the Unhook extension YouTube ceases to be social media. Through it I've blocked the comment section, recommended videos and shorts. Nowadays all YouTube is a blank screen and the only videos I see are what I search for.

One option I recommend: Cold Turkey Blocker, import social media blocks. https://getcoldturkey.com/
