Hello! I found that video with the last interview with murderer Ted Bundy. He is saying something about porn and the problematic use of it. I want to know your opinion and start a discussion about that.
Now I am looking for some resources to confirm the fact that he was a porn addicted or something like that. Many people say that he was lying in that moment because he had a personality disorder like narcissism or psychopath/sociopath.
If an alcoholic gets in their car, drives under the influence and crashes into another car, killing a family of four, is the drunk driver pardoned because they were under the influence of alcohol? No. Not everybody who is an alcoholic chooses to get in a car and drive while drunk. The alcoholic has an illness but that does not excuse or justify the behaviour. I don’t feel sorry for Ted Bundy- I feel sorry for the innocent victims he murdered. Porn didn’t make Ted Bundy kill people. It may have influenced his behaviour, it may have given him an unhealthy view of women and sex, but it is not the cause for his behaviour. He didn’t need to hurt people.
When Ted Bundy had access to pornography it was in the form of magazines and VHS tapes. Pornography was very different in the pre-internet era. Right now, somebody can have thousands of videos of hardcore pornography at the click of a mouse. Before, you’d have to steal your parents magazines or go into a shop and buy them, proving your age at the time. Think about how quickly you can click around a porn website today. It’s not possible to turn pages fast enough to recreate this. Also, internet pornography is endless. A magazine or VHS ends at some point but the internet doesn’t. It can go on indefinitely. Pornography addiction in its current form is a relatively new phenomenon. That’s not the say porn addiction didn’t exist prior to high-speed internet, but it was a different animal altogether. I’m sure porn did influence his mindset and sex is definitively a driving factor for a lot (if not all) serial killers, but it will be impossible to find evidence that he was addicted. Even today this evidence doesn’t really exist, and I’m a self-confessed PA!
We do not live in an ideal world. So why would you idealize punishments for such criminals? Ever read the case of Zunko Furuta? Even death penalty isn't enough for such atrocities. And she didn't even get that.
I'm sure Ted Bundy like many other teenagers had a problem with porn, but from what I understand he was a psychopath and it was very easy for him to manipulate people in a cunning way, and use porn as a scapegoat for his behavior. He could seem sympathetic, but it was only because, unlike a sociopath that is very blatant and loud in their behavior, psychopaths are cunning and know how to trick people to get their way. He was a smooth talker and planned his crimes secretly. My theory from what I've read and heard anyway. He had no conscience about killing. The porn excuse made him seem more human, but he really wasn't. Cold and calculating.
Good point. But there are still no psychological classifications of his personality disorders. You can find in Ted Bundy: a narcissist, a psychopath, an addictive person, a sociopath, a bipolar. So we don't know.
