Honesty I don't think so. I think it's just selling sex.

I think some of it can be considered art. It just depends on what kind of pornography you're talking about. Drawing hentai undoubtedly takes a lot of talent and creativity, especially in the case of tentacle porn *shudders*. Porn videos are basically a type of acting, so that's a type of art as well.

    The definition of art is:

    1. The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

    2. The various branches of creative activity, such as painting, music, literature, and dance.

With that in mind, I would say it can be. I guess it might depend on what you mean by sexual content. I consider Song of Songs to have sexual content in it but it's very artistic. Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah is about sex but the lyrics are so artistic that some people don't even realise it's about sex.

I think by definition it’s art. But that doesn’t mean it’s good

Yes, pornography can be a form of art. I would argue murder can also be a form of art too; have you seen the Hannibal TV show lol (I'm not sure if something like those crimes have happened in real life, but I bet it has)? That doesn't mean that this art is harmless or moral though. Art doesn't mean good, art just means expression of creativity and imagination. Some things are evil and harmful, doesn't make them less of an art though.

But I also don't think that all pornography is art simply because it makes use of an artistic medium (film); it takes no imagination or creativity to turn on a camera and copulate in front of it. I don't really buy this postmodern idea that art is all subjective and in the eye of a beholder or whatever—if you duct tape a banana to a wall and call it art, it does not make it an actual art; you can call a horse a cabbage, it does not make it into a damn cabbage—what is and is not art has some objective standards.

But yes, sexual contents can be a form of art.

I agree with you. Arguably, some adult content can be called art (xxx videos). It all depends on the content itself and on the soul invested in it. Just as not every drawing can be called a work of art. But it must be remembered that many areas of art were recognized only after several centuries. That is, a lot depends on time and human perception of certain events. Perhaps in 200 years, we will all be biomechanical organisms, and everything that has a classical naked body will be recognized as art and classic. Who knows...

I agree, "All Art is Subjective" is some bs. Art has plenty of subjectivity, and plenty of objectivity.

The subjectivity part of it is probably if porn is considered good or bad for society.
The objectivity part of it is if a particular porn video exists, how well is it made in comparison with other videos, and how well is it made in regards to society's general opinion of it.

Anyways, fuck porn and fuck postmodernism.

If sexually explicit content is art, so is my flatulence. I worked hard on it. I ate a burrito from Taco Bell. I chose the company I was in. I timed it perfectly. A forceful beginning, full of verve and vibrato, followed by a whispered rush and a delightful falling action, as if to pose a question to which we all should know the answer, but find it impossible to state.

Please. Erotic “art” exists because the artists are horny, and the consumers are horny, and they want to legitimize their lust by naming it highbrow. It’s just humans rutting, though, might as well show a blue whales’ giant dong, or a provocatively posed pig. There are a few pieces that treat sex with respect, but these are extremely rare and off limits for me anyway so I’m voting no. For practical intents, sexual content can be art but almost always isn’t.

I used to but not anymore. Now I know that sex as art is just cloak and dagger for the sex industry.

Is a porn director an artist like the directors of mainstream film? I don't know, is a person who purposefully and carefully injects lethal poison into millions an artist? The answer is I don't care, let's bury that pos and everyone like him so far under the ground that we don't have to think about them or suffer their "art" ever again.

i think it can be, but it is so out of fucking control right now its hard to imagine.
sex has a place in art but not in MAINSTREAM art, especially where children can find it, and the message is often violent and horrible. It makes me sick how many movies have the unnecessary rape or sex scene because its "art" and the industries ALWAYS back them up, cuz, ykno, gotta make that $$$$$$$$

Almost everything humanity does is artistic at some level. To what degree is just up to the level of intentionality that goes behind it. Obviously some people who make this stuff put a lot of thought and effort into it's construction, composition, editing, etc. Some of those things have taken decades of experimentation and experience to coalesce into patterns that are followed.

Just because something is toxic, poisonous, and seditious doesn't mean it doesn't have a level of art to it. I think the greatest think piece that one can point to in this time is breaking bad. It's a real thing, there is an art to making the drug, doesn't stop it from being awful and ultimately destructive for both the creator and the consumer.
