A fitting but shameful coincidence; possible triggers

Thing is, YouTube will recommend you sexual/suggestive/graphic content even if you don't actively look for it. YouTube's algorithm is a complete and total pile of festering shit. I don't know how else to put it. Just the other day I was watching lolcow videos, which are about as tame as tame can be, just funny fat idiots being bad at videogames and begging for donations, and in my recommendations? Videos with suggestive pictures of women among rage-bait content about muh current thing. I get recommended endless clickbait about American politics even though I'm not American. Like, YouTube, I don't care about Trump or Biden, stop showing me this shit lmao. Late last year I was searching for a trailer for an upcoming game, and the third of fourth option was a real video of a man being beheaded. I obviously didn't click on it but the thumbnail made it clear enough what it was.

Moral of the story for me is YouTube is garbage and either through incompetence or deliberate malice was made worse than it was a decade ago. Back then you could actually find new stuff and not be force-fed the audiovisual equivalent of stale vomit in an attempt to annoy you on purpose and farm that annoyance.

 

I think the algorithm behaves completely differently depending on the user. I can't explain it any other way. I have a second family account downstairs that never does the things I mentioned.

Alphabet started serving me lingerie ads - either their targeting algorithms got way worse or they are fishing for clicks regardless whether the user is looking to buy or fap.

Don't believe everything you listen in YouTube. There're many misleading informations.

 

It sounds kind of stupid and kind of smart. It’s your addiction trying to find a loophole, and I’ve done it. I’m sure a lot of addicts have done it. And I arrived at the same conclusion you did. Feels icky, doesn’t it, knowing the person you’re using as a substitution for porn would probably be at least mildly disgusted, knowing what you’re using her videos for. Knowing that what you’re doing isn’t as bad as full porn, but realizing it’s just a few feet higher on the slippery slope. That if you maintain this course, escalation is likely.

Don’t wallow in self recrimination and shame. Be grateful you knew well enough not to go whole hog, and that you caught it before it got worse. Be grateful for the learning opportunity, and take note. Your brain needs decompression, it’s asking for relief; you just need to find a better way to meet that need. Hit those weights, and feed yourself positive self talk as you do it. Plan on studying when you finish your set. Make tge best use of your time.

 

Thank you! I've fallen too many times to the dumbest stuff! What kills me is that I really know the pattern but still use that vile thing anyway. Of course I'm not saying it can't be good but lately it's just recommending or advertising faceless women which can make me feel more like an animal.
