Why do most guys not have PIED?

I feel like with the way the world is today, with the majority of people having unlimited high speed access to porn and artifical sexual stimulation, that you would think the majority of guys today would suffer with some sort of sexual dysfunction.

It is actually very likely that the percentage of guys that use porn and artifical sexual stimulation is actually much higher than the percentage of guys that don't use porn and artifical sexual stimulation.

From what I have read porn websites are one of the most viewed things on the internet.

The reality is the amount of guys that use porn and artifical sexual stimulation is much higher than guys that don't use it.

If this is true, then much more men should suffer with a porn indunced sexual dysfunction than not suffer with a porn induced sexual dysfunction. But this doesn't appear to be the case. It appears the guys that suffer with a porn induced sexual dysfunction are in a minority. That's not to say that a lot of guys don't suffer with a porn induced sexual dysfunction, but the percentage of guys that do suffer from it is much lower than the percentage of guys that don't suffer from it.

So this doesn't make any sense if much more guys use porn and artifical sexual stimulation than what don't use it. Yet much less guys suffer from a porn induced sexual dysfunction than what do suffer from a porn induced sexual dysfunction.

So all I can think is these guys who do use porn and artifical sexual stimulation must be doing something different. Is it because they have always mainly used it moderately? Basically they do use it, but they're not addicts. They haven't edged and binged on it for years, they haven't used it in such a way that has caused them to develop a porn induced sexual dysfunction? Or is it because a lot of these guys also actually have real sex? So they're also sexually conditioned to real sex, and not just sexually conditioned to artifical pixels on a screen?

But if the amount of guys use porn and artifical sexual stimulation that statistics show, then you would think most guys would have a porn induced sexual dysfunction. But most guys don't have a porn induced sexual dysfunction. So what's going on?

  2. It is true and I thought about it for some time. I guess my answer is that most men use porn differently than porn addicts. Plus a lot of us have many many psychological issues besides porn addiction.

This may be true. There’s us also the possibility that far more suffer fro it and never say a word. That was my husband. 5 years he had it, was too ashamed to even go to the dr. He chalked it up to getting older. Really, it was his escalation in porn that did it.

Too many variables. What makes an addict is the transition from moderation, with only very limited symptoms or effects, to being dependant on the substance or activity. When that line is crossed, DeltaFosB accumulates (I think it was an enzyme, who cares, it is the catalyst for addictions) and your brain starts building super strong highway connections for dopamine to that source. That is when you are on the road to experiencing the symptoms of addiction accompanied with symptoms regarding the specific type of addiction and it's source.

Many guys use porn about once every day or once every 2 days. If it is also just softcore porn and of small duration, you will not really cross that line at which a true addiction will be formed. Every NoFapper can remember a stage at which he/she progressed in some way. Some go into more extreme porn, that gives bigger hits of dopamine due to shock factor, which in turn will quickly get you addicted, while others could for example increase their frequency of porn use and thus increasing dopamine hits. But in all of those cases, there was a line that was crossed by engaging in either heavier of more frequent porn use that made the ''soft-addiction', like coffee drinkers for example, into real addicts that can't function without or are hindered without it.

I think most men today are addicted to porn, but only slightly. It hasn't yet an impact on their lives, but they are addicted to it. I could imagine I might be a little bit addicted to gaming, but it really isn't affecting my day or mood if I can't for some days. This is probably the same with porn. Many men are in a very soft place of addiction that has potential to erupt once they progress with the addiction.

In our case of NoFap, our progression has lead to PIED, PE, DE and/or more. We just crossed a line by progressing into porn, while others are still waiting for that train to arrive at their station, or will never get there.

I think my main issue is the frequency. I am an extreme edger and binger when I use porn and artifical sexual stimulation. So I will have PMO sessions that last 2,3,5 hours before I actually ejaculate. Flicking about loads of different content.

Where as if I masturbate using my imagination I ejaculate within 5,10 minutes.

  6. If it is true that most people don't have a problem with it, then it stands to reason they will likely be using P in their relationships. Similarly, if I would use P in a relationship, I wouldn't believe I have PIED either because the use of P would actually help me "overcome" ED. It's only when I abstain from P that I realize I have ED since 3-D women don't seem as exciting or interesting as the 2-D variety. The only way for these "normal" guys to know for sure is if they lay off the P and then see what happens when they have their source of sexual motivation cut-off.

I actually remember talking to some people about this issue one time when we were all drinking together. I guess the truth just came out about what I thought about porn when I was drinking, about how I thought porn could cause sexual dysfunctions and ed. I remember one of the women who was there literally said to me that she would just watch porn with the guy if that was the case. So she was meaning she would just watch porn with the guy until he was hard.

So maybe this does actually happen a lot of the time today?

  8. It's certainly possible especially when psychologists keep saying that all men watch P and that it is perfectly normal to do so. We need to do some experiments and find out what happens when P gets removed from the equation.

The majority of people today don't think porn is a problem. Especially even a lot of women don't think it is a problem. Like if a guy said he couldn't get it up because they have used too much porn, I think a lot of women wouldn't think it was the porn that was causing it, and would likely think it is something else.

I actually also have friends who use porn, but they also get laid reguarly. Frineds who have girlfriends ext, and other friends who just have a lot of one night stands.

It's quite frustrating they actually use porn, yet they have no issues with getting an erection. Yet I go long periods of time not using it and do have issues with getting an erection.

But I remember speaking to a few friends and even my brother about how long they masturbate to porn, and most of them did say around 5,10 minutes. So I guess this is the difference. They don't seem to go in to this edging and binging behavoir when they use porn.

I remember I actually said to one of my friends about masturbating to it for 3,5 hours before I ejaculate, and he said he didn't even know how that is possible.

I don't know if this is true, I'm sure I read that ED rates(and subsequent prescriptions) in young men are way higher now than at any point previously.

Oh no doubt about it. The creation of the highspeed internet platform is actually the main cause of ED rates being higher than they have ever been in history.

But even though these rates are way higher than they have ever been in history. It still appears that the percentage of men not suffering from ED is much higher than the percentage of men who are suffering with ED.

  12. In the end it does not matter. We should overcome porn because it harms us on an emotional, physical, social, ... level. If it cures our ED fine. If it does not, then there might be other medical reasons. This should be ruled out first, before you assume that ED is due to porn.

Yes I agree. Heavy PMO use can cause other issues besides ED. Mental health issues ext.

Guys can also suffer from ED and porn is not the cause. But I think in these times PMO probably is the main thing that is causing a lot of guys ED.

  14. Because they don't watch it obcessively, I think a lot of people FAIL to REALISE , you have to watch an obscene, obcessive amount of porn on a regular basis to actually have pied . People take breaks , maybe weeks apart. Stop pmoing or so much and you will recover

I think you're correct when you say that it could be that they have never been a porn addict. I can only use my habits as an example for why i suffer from PIED. Before starting NoFap i would masturbate and edge for hours on end- sometimes 10 plus hour sessions. I would masturbate and orgasm sometimes 5 plus times a day every day. I would do it at work, on vacation, in different countries, when i was with my girlfriend, at university, at friends houses. Day after day i would be doing it.

Anyway my point is maybe this is your answer. People that have similar habits might suffer from PIED and other that still watch porn and masturbate may only doing its once, twice, three times a week as opposed to three times a day every day. I know everyone is different but i think you know what i mean.

    Thanks dude, all the best!

In my humble opinion I dont think porn is the main reason of erectile dysfuction and I think its not good to trust that it is the reason then you will be cheating your mind and psychological consequences might be hard to assume. I think most of people hwo suffer from Pied or Ed have some physiological problem or/and psychological that they need to treat but most of doc are incompetent.

But why does my dick go rock solid while on porn and artifical sexual stimuation? Yet without porn and artifical sexual stimulation it does not go rock solid?

Well, my husband had pied for 5 years. Went to counseling, for depression but still had pied. Finally gave up porn and masturbation about a year and a half ago, at about 4 months clean his erections came back, rock hard. He’s 52 years old, he thought it was just age. Go figure

Well thats reassuring, im glad for you and your husband and I thank you in the name of all this community for being supportive ❤
But as you said he had PIED only for 5 years, so I presume he had normal erections before.. Speaking about my case and most of young men who grew up with porn we cannot say if we had normal erections or not. Its hard to explain but I remember that I had spontaneous hard erections in puberté when I see hot girls or talk to them. My first experience was at âge of 16 I had erection but I didnt pentrate.. Idk if you got the point.
