I saw somewhere that fasting can help if you're dealing with really difficult urges and transmute the energy elswhere. Anyone experienced this?

I’ve never fasted longer than until dinner time, but it for sure made it so I have no urges

Did you abstain from water and food or just food? What did you do?

food and water are the basic urges . control them and you tame your mind to control other urges

You know, food and water are the "basic" urges that makes you live, unless you want to die.
Anorexic girls who don't eat loses their monthly cycle as well, but I won't try that way and risk to damage a body just to loose some "sexual urges".

You seem to be having an extreme perspective. Control does not mean to stop eating . Control is to eat right food, to eat the right amount and not to over indulge . There is a concept of intermittent fasting which is scientifically proven . If one cares one can do research . And once in the path you can understand your own urges for food and water . It’s no rocket science and should not be feared … just research

I have a bit of experience with (intermittent) fasting. Don't think I would recommend it as an "emergency fix" for urges, more like training in delayed gratification.
I imagine it might be different for everyone, but generally I find a connexion between being well fed and comfortable, and seeking "lazy" pleasure.
Fasting gets that energy out of my system and forces the mind to take over and focus.
But there can be the effect of getting hungry and irritable, which can be a trigger, depending on your psychology and mood.
It's being more fragile for a little while, to come back stronger. So to be ready to fast, you should first be nice and stable physically.
I read that testosterone drops during the fast, but then you get a boost when breaking the fast.
Experiment with shorter periods first and see what works for you, it's the most I can say.
