Would people be interested in a live chat room feature on the forum? Only trusted users can post in it to prevent porn Would use ArrowChat or TaigaChat Pro or a similar option, depending on poll results, open to suggestions Please post any thoughts! Would it take away from the in-depth forum discussions, or enhance our community?
I think it is a great innovation and I agree with you that some caution seems wise. I think the most useful aspect of it is the speed or the immediacy of it. Therefore, you might trial it for 2 weeks or a month as an additional relapse prevention tool. This would enable people that are in imminent danger of masturbating and/or using porn to ask for help and get real time assistance. To make the pilot 'safe' you could make it accessible to those you deem trustworthy that are in a rut of resetting within 3/4 days of their last orgasm (likely because of the chaser effect). This would ensure that it was used enough to evaluate it. It would also provide some data indicating if their previous pattern was improved upon. These are just my first thoughts. Someone else may be able to flesh them out with a bit more time and thought. Exciting times though Alexander. Thanks.
I voted for the first option, as long as you are a registered member and have a certain number of posts, to prevent abuse. It would be great to come on the forum and chat live for a while with other fapstronauts. I think it's a great idea and journals will not be affected, because they're two different things entirely.
I voted for the second option. As a woman, I would not be comfortable joining a group chatroom with mostly men. I would be worried about my presence making them uncomfortable talking about their difficulties, and it might also be triggering for me. One-to-one chat would be great, though!
Moderators are testing out a live chat room now, which has been installed. We're still trying to figure out a way to introduce this in a way that won't introduce easy trolling and porn posting, so new users will likely be restricted from posting in the chat room(s). Also, the chat will add a lot of load to our servers, so waiting out to see if our fundraising campaign is successful or not because we'll need more server resources for chat.
I'd just block all images and links for now. Kik already has that covered so I think group chat would be a better option.
Just an instant reaction from me. When I came on and saw the chat flying along on the main page, when i logged on, I felt a little disheartened. All those smart and important people talking about important stuff. Kind of made me feel a bit rubbish in myself. Only my initial reaction like i said i'm a bit sensitive sometimes
