Very confusing for me. We have friends and relatives in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Kirgistan, so we listen to news presented on both sides.
Still, this whole attack just does not make any sense to me. Whatever the outcome, Putin has lost already. Now the nonsense fighting is continued to cause maximum damage for Ukraine and in hope to eventually be able to present some result that can be claimed a success.
Russian military is stronger, so probably Putin may be able to eventually claim to have conquered parts of Ukraine, but the cost is so extremely high in all aspects, e.g. in terms of casualties, economic loss, loss in human rights for the people in Russia, loss in wealth for the population in Russia, loss in political support for Putin.
Some people will find satisfaction in pointing at Europe which is also suffering, or at US who acted inacceptable in Irak and Vietnam.
However, this will not for long distract from the tremendous guilt accumulated.
For long, people in Russia did not notice how propaganda has twisted their view on events e.g. Georgia, Krimera or Donbas region.
Now, gradually, people realize that their view is russia-exclusive.
Whatever the result and whatever stories are told - I hope people realize that the vast majority of humans in all parts of the world is rooting for peace.
On either side, those who tell stories in which 'America', 'Europe', 'Russia', 'Ukraine' are plotted as actors as if countries or cultures were individuals, are those who fan resentments.
People of any country are diverse and any general claim against a group of people is necessarily wrong (Russians, Americans, Ukraineans, Jews, Jesuits, Chinese, Moslems, Taliban, etc).
Nazi Germany has sadly demonstrated how hate against a group of people can make humans blind - Now we see that in a similar manner hate is again used with similar intention. Paradoxically, justified with alleged Nazis (now in Ukraine) as the enemy stereotype.
